Garlic Bread, the Easier Way

If you want the full flavour of garlic bread without peeling, crushing and frying fresh cloves, dehydrated minced garlic is the answer. It rehydrates quickly in oil, delivers consistent intensity and keeps your kitchen considerably less fragrant during prep. This recipe uses whole grain bread for added fibre — a small upgrade that makes a real difference.

Whole wheat garlic bread — olive oil, dehydrated minced garlic, fresh parsley

What You Will Need — Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1 whole grain baguette, cut into thin slices
  • 1 tablespoon dehydrated minced garlic
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) good-quality olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh parsley (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C.
  2. Mix the dressing: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, dehydrated minced garlic, parsley (if using), salt and pepper. Allow to rest for 2–3 minutes — this gives the garlic time to rehydrate slightly in the oil, releasing its flavour fully.
  3. Apply to bread: Brush the mixture generously over the top surface of each baguette slice. Don't be shy — it soaks in and crisps beautifully.
  4. Bake: Arrange slices on a baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and crisp.
  5. Serve immediately — garlic bread is best straight from the oven.

Tips & Variations

  • Experiment with herb additions — dried oregano, thyme or rosemary all work well with garlic.
  • Add a light sprinkle of nutritional yeast for a savoury, cheese-like note without dairy.
  • For a richer result, use a mix of olive oil and softened butter.
  • Dehydrated garlic is more concentrated than fresh — 1 tablespoon dehydrated ≈ 3–4 fresh cloves.
  • Pairs perfectly with pasta, soups, salads or as a standalone snack.
